Come in.....slow down.....

Group Classes

Group classes are an excellent way to maintain a yoga practice while enjoying a sense of community and positive energy created in a group environment.

The intimacy of my home studio (maximum 5, minimum 3 students) offers a safe and non-competitive space, where you can get to know yourself on a more intimate level, without judgement.  Learn to explore how you relate to yourself on all five layers of being.  There will be times when you're asked to tap into your emotional body, your energetic body, your nervous system.  You may find yourself being challenged from within, as you welcome stepping outside of your comfort zone and learn to be a student of yourself and your life.

If you feel your needs may differ from a group environment, I'd be happy to meet with you in person to discuss what is the best Yoga for you.

Class Description

Slow + Strong Yoga

  • This class is ideal for those wanting a slower pace, where you will gain confidence in practicing your version of yoga.  When we slow our practice down, we experience the movement as opposed to accomplishing it.  Discover how slower is stronger, how you can calm the nervous system, and build a better relationship with your body and mind.  Learn how your yoga practice can become something you do for and with yourself.

  • Slow movement helps to reduce chronic pain, alleviate depression and anxiety, reduce inflammation and fatigue.
  • Slow movement builds mindfulness, resilience, and increases our peace and happiness.
  • Slow movement builds strength through a deeper connection to our body, resulting in a greater appreciation for its ability.

Group yoga classes follow the foundations of Classical (Ashtanga) Yoga's 8 fold path:

Yamas (5 moral restraints:  non-harm, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation and non-greed)
Niyamas (5 positive observances: purity, contentment, discipline, self-study and surrender)
Asanas (postures)
Pranayama (breath control)
Pratyahara (sensory withdrawal)
Dharana (concentration)
Dhyana (meditation)
Samadhi (pure bliss)

Student reflections:

"As soon as I walk in, I get that calm feeling... this is where I want to be.  Whatever was bothering me before, whether physical or mental, is lifted."  Joyce

"It's time I take to look after myself.  It is fun, we're able to laugh and take risks."

"This past year has been quite challenging with a life threatening illness in my home.  Sheila' studio has been a sanctuary I can count on.  A place to come and take big breaths and know for that hour and 15 minutes all is well.  This is my time to get in touch with me and trust it is a safe place to allow whatever feelings emerge.  Sheila is discreet and at the same time I feel I have a blanket of love and protection around me during each class.  My yoga practice is a life line, keeping me grounded in the way I wish to express my support and caring for my loved one.  Namaste Sheila and my yoga friends." - Carol

"Yoga has allowed me to nurture an awakening of inner self and well being that no other form of exercise has done.  Thank you, Sheila, for providing an intimate, friendly and safe environment for expression, both physical and spiritual." - Sue
